Through the generous support of a number of sponsors, we have to date been able to send over 120 pupils to secondary schools in Kilgoris and Narok. It takes about 3 hours to drive to these schools from Mara Rianda; Kilgoris is to the north west and Narok to the east.
The charity provides a bursary to some of the top performing pupils whose parents or family are unable to support them at secondary school. Regrettably we do not have the funds to support every child.
About the bursary scheme
The charity operates a bursary scheme for the sponsorship of the better performing children at secondary school. For a UK tax payer £30 per month for 4 years is all that is required, the charity is able to reclaim a further 25% on those donations from HM Revenue & Customs. The total amount effectively funds the education of a child for their entire secondary education.
Overseas donors and non UK tax payers need to provide support of about £400 per year for 4 years.
The funding provides not only the school fees and boarding fees but also the school equipment that the pupils need such as writing materials, textbooks, revision guides, sports equipment etc. It also meets the cost of termly transport to and from the Mara, and provides a modest amount of pocket money.
